Shackle Island is the crossroads of State Routes 174 and 258, about four miles north of Hendersonville. The name goes back to at least 1797, when a surveyor noted an island in Drakes Creek.

It is not a separate city. It is a named community of subdivisions and creek lots between Hendersonville and White House, which is exactly why buyers use it as a search term.
